Divorce Services

Divorce brings change. Change in how we think about ourselves, our relationships, and our families. Change in how we arrange our homes, jobs, and day-to-day activities.

Determining and implementing the best changes for everyone involved in a divorce, particularly children, can be difficult. Our practice provides problem-solving approaches that minimize the pain and maximize the emotional and financial wellness of the participants.

The approach we take is tailored to your situation. When needed, we also provide referrals to related professionals, such as attorneys, financial planners, and realtors.

Mediation

In mediation, participants make their decisions with the guidance of a neutral third party, a mediator. The mediator is responsible for ensuring that all sides are heard and that decisions made are in the best interest of the participants.

Mediation can be used in any of the following types of circumstances:

  • Pre-divorce decree
  • Post-divorce decree
  • Never-married couples
  • Same-sex couples
  • When a married spouse comes out

More information about mediation is available from the Mediation Council of Illinois.

Collaborative Law

In collaborative law, the participants agree that they will work together to resolve their own issues. They are assisted in this process by specially-trained collaborative law professionals, such as attorneys, child specialists, divorce coaches, and financial planners.

The roles we serve in collaborative law situations are:

  • Coach - supports and guides an individual or both participants through the process
  • Child specialist - focuses on the needs and interests of the children involved

More information about collaborative law can be found at the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, including descriptions of the coach and child specialist roles in the process.
